Reading the news coverage of Osama bin Laden’s death last week sometimes sounded like the narrative of a new video game. There were the secret radar-evading government helicopters, the highly trained war dog and the fearless members of Seal Team 6, the best of the best Navy Seal units, which?stormed Bin Laden’s compound.
Now a new level for the popular first-person shooter video game??Counter-Strike, which is made by the game company Valve Corporation, has been shared online, and replicates Bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
The level is available as a free download from the Web site GameBanana and was created by a game developer who goes by the name Fletch online.
Although several thousand people have downloaded the new level since it became available over the weekend, some have questioned on the site’s forum whether the game is being shared in bad taste. The creator of the game?defended?his creation, writing, “I can see how people would think it is in bad taste, but honestly if that’s your opinion you may as well protest the whole game (as well as many others).”
What do you think? Is it too soon to offer a game replicating the attack on Bin Laden’s compound?
